DIY Solar-Electric Planning Day

Sunday, 2019 Apr 28, Noon to 3 pm

Successful Completion

I'd like to thank those who could make it. We had six show up (including me) and spent the afternoon talking about equipment, systems, PV needs of each individual, and their experiences. On display were a 13 watt system from Harbor Freight and a 435 watt commercial panel. We had charge controllers from simple $15 PWMs to an Outback 80 watt MPPT costing nearly $500. We discussed the Kill A Watt meter that tells you what power your 110 V devices use and a unit that measures the power used by 220 V equipment like well pumps. We discussed ways to use solar power to heat water, air, running heat pumps, and powering fans. While we focused on solar power every group of preppers will drift into other aspects such as energy efficient homes, well pumps, and food production. For myself I think it was very informative and I'm sure everyone came away with some information they could use.

Hosted by Boise Preppers

All interested parties welcome, no entrance fees, no signups required

The location is 1990 W. South Slope Rd, Emmett, Idaho

This event is for anyone interested in learning more about solar-electric (a.k.a. Photovoltaic or PV) systems, components, and design elements. The property owner has several commercial grade panels and wants to make the most of them. Two systems are currently under consideration: the first will power a cooling fan for a large greenhouse while the second will provide heating to the house in the winter and cooling in the summer. Attendees will be invited to offer suggestions on locating, pointing, wiring, and other aspects of system design. There will be plenty of opportunities to learn about the various aspects of solar power, components, and design.
