Lancaster 2009 Grand (Go Kart) Prix

On October 10, 2009 I dropped Julia off with relatives for the weekend then went into Lancaster to shoot up the Lancaster Grand Prix Go Kart races. After a couple of quick shots into the sun I went into King's and picked up a new hood for my camera. Their shop was right on the race circuit so it made a good starting/ending point. I ended up walking all the way around the fenced track and, at one point, found myself inside the pits next to the track. Because of my camera no one seemed to mind. Here is where I got down on my belly (I know, that's an oxymoron) and took some low shots. As I continued around the track I stood on various trash cans, bleachers, and drainage vents to get shots over the top of, and through, the fence, as well as a few human interest shots.

Anyway, here is my (photo) story, and I'm sticking to it.

I wasn't sure if the "TUNNELL" on the helmet was his name or misspelled traffic directions.

I wonder what I looked like through his camera. Now this is product placement.

Of course, street scenes can be interesting too.

Smokey and the Bandit.

Where's Waldo?

Oh, there he is!

The singing of the National Anthem caught my eye.

Another street scene, and a discount on my next purchase?
I think I see Hollywood Hulk Hogan.
See the guy in the lower right corner? Is that a scratch or a pick?

Lancaster politics, as usual. Everyone wants to go a different direction while the public helplessly (hopelessly?) looks on.

Here we see the VIP race with Lancaster's Mayor, Vice Mayor, and two other dignitaries not looking so dignified. Mayor R. Rex (T Rex) Parris is the one in the blue helmet.
